Indianapolis -- Indiana Democratic Party Chair Dan Parker issued the following statement this evening in response to the remarks made by President Obama regarding his strategy for Afghanistan:

"I applaud President Obama for taking the time to extensively review our strategy in Afghanistan in order to get things right.

"President Obama made it clear this evening that our efforts in Afghanistan are not about nation-building, but about America's national security and breaking the momentum of the Taliban once and for all.

"This plan will make our country safer, get our armed forces in and out of Afghanistan more quickly, and finally bring an end to the corruption that has plagued our mission in that country from the outset.

"From the campaign trail until today, President Obama has been consistent in his dedication to this issue, and this evening's announcement will bring us closer to the eventual goal of transitioning security to Afghan forces as we combat the threats posed by the Taliban and Al Qaeda."
